The first mark of colour is never arbitrary. Colour for its ability to communicate fascinates me. The more I explore colour and it’s qualities, the more amazed I become with its surprises and its ability to soothe or irritate according to manipulated or accidental juxtapositions.

    Content is derived from a continuing exploration of the layers of my experience; experience both private and public, both intellectual and intuitive. This exploration sifts through the fragments of accumulated encounters of my days and sometimes years, then consciously or unconsciously suggests a reference point for the work to begin. Frequently titling occurs after the work is completed.

    Above all else, it is the process of putting mark upon mark onto a blank canvas that urges me on. This process itself facilitates the challenge to devise a pictorial language that will enable me to transfigure personal experience into meaningful paintings; paintings that will stir some form of recognition of that experience in others.
